Colin knew the abandoned storage unit was several kilometres away. He would make the trek tonight but not before dusk.
Often during the early days of the "Resistance" he had used his LUPS frame to cart scrap out to the same trail he trudged along now. No one had been down this way for months as the overgrowth made plain. The resistance was dead now, some three months. So that was little surprise and his main reason to head this way. On foot only the wild could conceal him the way he felt was needed. In his heart was a conviction, Colin remembered feeling the Resistance were doing right and doing good and they were almost able to shake Corporate out of town.
Early on he would drag all sorts of things out for them. It shook him up when he was asked to stop, more so when he discovered how many had been torched in ambush by Corporate. He was in deep at that point, sweating at work and all too aware what they would do if they caught the mole they were after.
The brushes clear a bit and a path is visible headed more north than his destination. It is well worn, animals use it daily. Water is close if so. The instincts tell him details of the plants and terrain. His head wanders as though justifying his part in the months before the end.
For his role Colin put in subtle effects so that Corporate was sabotaged, information stolen and security compromised. Colin wanted to see it burn, all those brats given top jobs would pay. Colin couldn't wait for revenge but the Resistance had died such a cruel death. His mind raged and the vision of Corporate grasping what it lost grew heavy. The Resistance only faded after Levin Sunder worked his freedom into a truce. Turned his back on everyone, on freedom. After that it wasn't long and Colin watched as Corporate shipped out any known participants. No more than a week before it all popped he had watched as friends made the choice to quit sabotaging and join full time. Guerilla fighters. Loosed from the Corporate chains, to forage the wilds and bring true freedom. Every day the Corporate payment plan buys another rat and the raiding parties go out. He saw how they were escorted to ships. He saw just how they all were gonna be forced to work again.

This whole scene stuck with Colin as he looked through thick brush for the bunker. The snap of twigs and the rush of leaf against the thin, rugged material of his jacket resounding as his march drew on. Colin knew how to survive. Knew what was needed to endure seasonal change on this planet. Knew what kind of resources he had on hand. Most important, the resource of whom to seek should there be new hope.

Every week a cargo ship came from the north. It was routine, fixed. Fifth day of the week it departed but arrival varied. Sometimes it would arrive two days prior sometimes only one. It was routine. The village of Sylang was 20km south, expanding further south and mining on the eastern edge. Several moons had passed since Colin left Sylang. Things seemed to have settled down. Although he had seen smoke in the distance when he woke, little activity had been seen in weeks. Colin brushed it off as hunters or surveyors prospecting some vein of ore. From his viewings all had become routine. Like the cargo freighter.
Fitting that this week it came four days early. Just the sort of thing to happen and no one notice, I'm sure even the local surplus stores didn't notice the service men were early. Colin noticed though. He heard it and knew immediately what it was and that it was not supposed to be in the sky. Not while he lumbered through a field with a sack of roots and herbs.
Diving into a bush and propping his sack over as much of his exposed body as possible and held his breath. It was all alarms and questions to Colin. Why today? Why the change? The disruption stirred his head and now the camp smoke he saw this morning some six hours away gnawed at him ferociously.
What could bring a search party out this way? None had been active this last moon cycle and did the cargo schedule have anything to do with it? Why would a search party stay the night in the wilds and remain inactive? Why would the schedule change?!
The roar of the vessel direct overhead drowned out most of his thoughts and Colin found himself peeking out at the familiar square back end of the clunker. He must be headed back he decided. The gathering could wait until he felt safer, until he knew his next move.

Colin entered a small air exchange port and clambered through the shaft. Neatly dropping down into the bunker as had been routine. Quickly flicking three breakers as he made his way through the dark towards some standby LED's. Sitting down and as his receiver, displays and overhead lights simultaneously flicker to life. Now his curiousity of the search party could be covered with radio sweeps from the safety of the bunker. Six hours away wasn't the closest they've come but it was the first in a long while. He set an alarm to trigger if any chatter was picked up and made his way across the large open space. A good 30 meters square gave him enough room to create he figured. Colin primed a gas generator and pulled swiftly on the tether. With a satisfying chug chug the low rumble began and Colin got to his work bench and the harmonic transceiver. Plan is to attach triangulation circuitry and hardwire an output. So long as that alarm stays quiet, he would be able to pin point the frames exact location once it was installed.

The one lone Prototype Gundam (cough) I meant frame and pilot against the hoards of evil oppressors. I like the "hidden base filled with potential, but on the brink of being discovered." So I need to read more of this.

Nothing on the display. Quick check that wires are in order, Colin unplugs a few cables and examines the jack's before plugging it all back in again. Restarting the transceiver Colin watches a thin white line shoot across the middle of the display and illuminates with a stream of code. The rigged up components mounted to his work bench get a quick look over as he starts evaluating if each device is working properly. The stream of code on the display changes drastically and Colin leans in to examining it more closely. The drones Corporate used were nothing special and hardly worth salvaging to most but this was his ace. Colin knew how to work with them. A bunch of genuine SVETLANA power tubes and high tensile servo arms were used by BOME along with multi-light spectrum sensors. Paired with the rig and the code this unit would pick up activity about 10 Km. Quickly he packed up the unit, mount it high, run up a tree and he'd be back at his monitor in minutes.
Sweat began to form on Colins wrinkled brow. He was nervous. Not because it was set so close to the compound and not that a bunch of cables feeding back gave away the hidden access. No, the risk for detection is low. The worry is what will he find and what is changing? Colin knew this was vital but it was nudging at the angst in the back of his mind. Whatever it was it bothered Colin, more so it bothered him to feel powerless over his future.
He stood and exited the bunker by the main doors. They creaked open and Colin strapped the unit 30 feet up a tree not far from the opening. Running cable with him he scampered down the air exchange and closed the creaky doors. Sitting down at the display puts him in a shock! What is that? Just two frames. But nothing recognisable by means of model. It is fairly clear though that they have no weapons just equipment. Colin swings his chair back in rage. Developers! Hutching right outside the door.
