An as yet undecided world...

Year 0027 Solar Calendar -> Less than 2.5 decades after the first successful transit gate - their Creator, ..., who originally saw Transit Gates as a way to free humankind has become disillusioned by the SU imperialistic agenda.

A new colony is chosen in the … Quadrant. However, during their (2nd) gate transit a "terrorist" cell (guided by the Creator) sabotages the equipment & re-plots the drop co-ordinates deep into the outer rim - effectively severing any possible contact/influence from SU.

Upon arrival the colonists discover the Ark – a hospitable, terrestrial planet greatly resembling the old world, Terra.

If I may make a suggestion - you might want to avoid filling in the blanks on setting-core details like "the Creator of the Transit Gates" if you want compatibility with canon and community acceptance. If Josh and Vincent decide that the Transit Gates were created by a core team of 10 researchers, and after the Gate system went live, they all basked in celebrity status, book tours, and the motivational speech circuit for the rest of their natural lives, well, suddenly your stuff isn't compatible with canon anymore.

Instead, if you have it be one of the researchers who worked on the technology or a theoretician that worked on some of the principles further up the chain, it's less likely to contradict canon. I realize you probably want to lend this faction credibility and authority, but the way you've defined it, there's only one Creator of the Transit Gate Technology - technology that is necessary for the setting to function; characters that important can't be left in the hands of individual fans because their personal histories will have shaped the canon setting.

Remember that the purpose of MFØ canon is to encourage creativity, not stifle it! It's more likely that, Domovoy makes up a name for a guy and I need a guy with a name, I'll ask Domovoy to use the name.

Transit gates were a project developed by hundreds or even thousands of people, though; it's possible that there was an initial theorist, but it took all of the powers of Earth to devise the system.

Yes, I wanted to base my idea on the initial theorist, who creates the theory allowing for transit gates envisioning a greater future for humanity ie. freedom & equality but realizes that the Solar Union, who controls the technology only plan to use it to pillage other systems resources and cause greater human suffering.

But that isn't the goal of the Solar Union. Joshua's done a very good job to ensure that neither faction looks like the dominant villain. Each has the good and the bad.

Nowhere in the established lore has the Union's goal being to pillage other systems (besides, if they are unconquered, you're not truly pillaging), and certainly isn't to CAUSE Human suffering. That's simply ridiculous. The Union wishes to further Humanity, feed its people, expand and grow stronger. No faction goes to war simply to CAUSE human suffering.

Maybe a better wording would be "feels that" instead of "realizes that". He could be an ideological extremist of some sort.

So, my questions here are:

  • What are at least three factions vying in mobile frame combat for resources?
  • They still have the theory to build a transit gate and probably the resources to do so. Are they interested only in this single planet?
  • This seems like a really sad story to me: the dude irrevocably leaves all of human history and culture behind because they're awful people, only to found a new world on giant robot combat. Is that what you really want?
