So, I'm drafting up a few design ideas to expand my company, especially in a melee direction, and I was just wondering:

Do the one-shot rockets count as a direct fire system for the purposes of a mech with and no ranged weaponry otherwise? I'd like to keep the bonus for no ranged attack but give it a SHTF backup in case it's caught in the open

No, they do not. It's one of the little quirks of the new edition that have lead to some interesting builds.
