I've got three companies, but one of them isn't designed that well.

At demos, I do just what V and Mantisking do.

I'm in the process of getting some companies together for that. I've got one finished, and I'm currently working on the second. I really want them to get passer-bys gawking.

Based on your previous work, I doubt that will be a problem.

So in a game with 2+ attackers, there seems to be nothing stopping an overlapped set up of the attacking players. In fact it looks like not only can they start within DF of each other but they can also start in HTH with each other... Or am I missing something?

Yeah, getting an attacker up in their erstwhile ally's business is sometimes the one real hope of a defender.

Well now I'm modifying my team to be as small as possible. I DO NOT want the enemy hth to start next to my artillery team.....

Actually you want to be just one mech and one attachment smaller than your opponent, then you get all of the Initiative benefits with minimal cost in firepower. If you go with the smallest force (and the attacker knows/guesses this) then the attacker can max out thier force and have a HUGE firepower advantage without sacrificing any Initiative (since they are already losing on that front by the maximum amount possible).

This pregame set up is really interesting, I think it forces you to play the company you want to play without knowing whether or not you will be attacking or defending. It seems to be a great way to simulate what would likely be a fluid combat theater caused by giant stompy mechs.

Wait, does Forged mean "physically small" or "fewer in number?" Not that that would matter, since the only way to prevent Attacker A's HtH frames from starting next to Attacker B's Artillery frames is to physically surround Attacker B's Artillery frames such that there are no legal starting positions adjacent to the Artillery frames. You need a larger company size (number of frames) to make that possible, and while smaller Artillery frames would make it easier, it's also made easier with larger "cover" frames.

If you're interested in small frames, might I recommend WangTech's SecondSkin™ Hardsuit line? ;)

I am a little confused about the multiple-Attacker placement rules in terms of verisimilitude, though... there's no way two hostile forces would be marching shoulder-to-shoulder unless a truce (even an unofficial, temporary one) was already called, otherwise the firefight would have already started between them the moment the first Attacker came into Direct view of the other.

Remember that fighting over second place is the best way to let the person with the initiative win. When it comes to attacking your fellow losers, make canny and intentional decisions, as coolly as you're able. Don't get all itchy and reflexive or you'll just lose.

So, Randolph: a truce, exactly! An uneasy, fragile, doomed alliance to take down the defender.

Furthermore, if you find yourself in a position where you can't attack the defender but can attack your co-loser, it's tempting and often a good idea.

Like, "this company's fast-moving and aggressive but it has to be to win, this one is a real meat grinder but they're hard to swing around once you've got them moving, this one is built for defense and counterstriking. Who wants which?"

Any recommendations for the build out of the three above companies?

I use Estar's Anvil vs. a company of all Swarmers plus a d6Rd d6Rd d6Y d6Y d6G d6W d6W. The third company I've decided isn't up to the task and I'll have to redesign.

Oh boy, that's one odd company. :D What where you thinking?

That it'd make for an interesting game? There was an Artillery Mech and another Basic Mech that I could have swapped out for but, they stayed in the box.
