Basic frame design

Postby Vidar » Sun Apr 15, 2012 12:00 pm

Does anyone write a good old fashion how for building basic frames? I want to get my local gaming store started on MFZ but have been out of Lego building for several (15+) years. Still pick them up when I go home and build with the latest peso-grandkid. But have not done any serous building, justa few hours a year.
So I would like some basic instuctions for frames and parts to start building a force that I can demo and start people playing. Any ideas?

Hi Vicar,

Really the best way to start with frame design is to go over to the MFZ Flickr Group and just start looking at the pictures of breakdowns and stripped frames.

There are a huge number of ways to build a basic frame, and there's an enormous amount of creativity out there - yourself included - and new designs are popping up all the time.

I look forward to seeing your stuff!

I have a series of posts on how to construct the official frames on my blog.

We've got some catching up to do (there was a whole lot of real nice-looking activity last week), but the MF0 wiki has links to several frames with build/breakdown instructions.

Actually, if you want to get someone's attention who might not be sold on the idea yet, use one of the PDF instructions that the amazing Wordman is creating here in the first post:

viewtopic.php?f=3&t=575

Those make it so much easier than trying to figure out how something is put together by deconstructing an image. I am so very viciously non artistic that I have a hard time figuring out even the broken down mechs sometimes. Those PDF files are usually the only thing that I can easily recreate without too much frustration.
