Oh snap! I love that Hammerhead design, Cake. Really slick. The only thing that bugs me is the single exposed stud in front of the first dorsal-mounted cannon. I'd want to cover that with a jumper plate.

I could see a larger, capital ship version of that build with multiple row of torpedo tubes on the front. Or something with a wider head and all sorts of greebling on the back of the hood for a sensor ship, or ECM defense bits.

I agree with that exposed stud - currently working on an improvement, and it's already gotten wider, at this rate I'll have a Dreadnought sized craft, not a Cruiser

Love playing with design, it's soooo versatile, and soooo easy to modify :D

I really like the core of the Nimbus hull, very versatile. I wanted to have a couple light escorts to go with my big cruiser; they ended up getting much broader and flatter.

The Nimbus is a great core to work off of. I wouldn't be surprised to see lots of people building these for IO.

As I said in the group shot post, I love the use of the mudguards, I also like the "dolphin fin" exhaust. The grey really makes the look military, too. Have you considered a splash of color somewhere though? Just to draw the eye?

I was having some fun along the same lines. It's just a great core to start with.

I've been busy with this one the last few weeks, which is a polite way of saying I went a little crazy and now have 10 of them. I could go on and on about how versatile a platform it is, but I'll let the pictures do that instead

I like these variations, but I think the design loses something when you put binoculars up near the front—because fishface. That aside, they're all nice examples.

Now I can't unsee the fish face... Thanks, Blorf.

However, I'm really digging the orange, green, and two supplemental dark red ones. Nice work, FragsturBait.

And... NECROTHREAD!

ORT-09X DDG and ORT-07 DD by Christopher Stone-Bush, on Flickr
It's been a long while since I did anything with my 'NASA Industrial' fleet. Real life has a nasty way of interfering with the time I would otherwise spend on my hobbies. But things have calmed down and I'm back to building more IO ships. Yeah!

Above are the new MkIII Nimbus destroyers; the ORT-09X Nimbus DDG (a guided missile destroyer) on the left and the ORT-07 Nimbus DD (destroyer) on the right. The change from MkII to MkIII was pretty minor; I simply swapped the top and bottom hulls. The white, curved top brick is now the prow (like the Cumulus class cruisers), giving the ship a more "beluga-like" appearance. I still have to update the ORT-08 Nimbus DD, but in the meantime...

ORT-10 Nimbus MkIII DDR (Radar-Picket) by Christopher Stone-Bush, on Flickr

The ORT-10 Nimbus DDR (radar picket destroyer). Nicknamed ‘Bettas’ due to their distinctive pectoral fin antenna arrays, ORT-10s function as a radar-picket ships. Their increased sensor capabilities allow them to “illuminate” enemy targets at long ranges, helping the heavier armed ships maximize their damage potential.

I played around with the positioning of those minifig harpoon guns a lot until I was satisfied. The whole idea came about because I finally got a pair of the harpoons in an underwater themed City I bought recently. I've wanted some of those for a long, long time.I'm not sure how useful it is in game, but I think this ship is a double-spotter.
