The collected works of Frags Shipyards

Postby FragsturBait » Sun Mar 01, 2015 1:54 pm

So I've built a handful of IO frigates, and never got around to posting them here. I've posted a few here already, but I wanted everything in one place. So, I present, in no particular order, and of no particular fleet, my efforts over the last few months.

First, the Longbow I strikeship:
mkIII

mkVII

The MKIII is meant to act in a fleet defense role, while the MK VII has more offensive firepower.

The Longbow II:
mkIX
Image
Designed as a dreadnought escort, and having strong offensive and defensive capabilities, the mkIX is still vulnerable outside of the protection of its capitol ship. The heavies escorts the strikeships just as much as the strikeships escort the heavies.

Acolyte Gunboat:
Image
The Acolyte is lightly crewed, as most room is taken up by a microfactory that can crank out a R-9 Osprey anti-ship missile in minutes. Usually flown in squadrons of 6, this translates into either one formidable salvo every few minutes, or constant harassing fire. Lack of speed and an otherwise weak armament are it's key vulnerabilities.

MACP Gunboat:
Image
A gun with engines. A scaled up version of anti-ship cannon in a scaled down frame. Capable of punching a hole clean through a frigate. It's primary weakness is the 20 minute charge time for the main gun.

I also threw together a few Cruisers, and thought I'd include them.

Fighter Support Vehicle
Image
Essentially a mobile repair facility for fighters.

Modular Assault Ship
Image
Built with multiple hardpoints, and capable of swapping loadouts mid battle to react to ever changing battlefield conditions. This ship is fitted with a frame launcher and a missile pod.

Also ignore the bases on all of these. While they were built with IO in mind, the pics weren't taken with the same consideration. These ships were also built to fit into the fleet of larger ships I've been working on as small support vessels. Isn't scale fun?

Awesome! If I had to pick a fave it would be the Longbow II, but I like them all.

Yup longbow 2 is my favorite, but i especially like your microfactory idea. Overall they all look great, and please make some more.

Excellent use of slopes, curves, and SNOT.

Mt favourite is the Alcolyte! I have a thing for wide-mawed, whalesharkesque designs. They are all mesmerising though! I'd love a little breakdown too if you could Fraggie. I'm planning on spending the weekend making IO ships and other than Soren I don't have many breakdowns for inspiration.

I'd just like to add that your larger scale space ships are out of this world! Great work mate, really really awesome.

How/What have I not commented on these yet? Both the Longbows and the Acolyte are fantastic. I'll echo arkon in politely asking for a break down. :)

Oh yeah, I was gonna do that wasn't I? Stay tuned.

Edited because breakdown shot. LDD incoming.

LDD includes the mkI, mkII, and the "essential bits" for a mkI. I wanted the half plate inset for the curves on the bow, but if you use 2-sided 1x1s or a 1x2 to hold the curves on it looks pretty good too. Go nuts!
