The Defigo Canis is an omnivore possesing mostly canine and few feline qualities. A quadrupedal creature, the Defigo's build is slender, long, and muscular. Their skulls accomodate long snouts which feature noses with an extraordinary sense of smell, directional pointy ears, typical canine type fangs and teeth, and finally accented by a pointy chin. The males feature an exaggerated deltoid bulge on their backs as well as long and thick sinuous tails which have bony ends which have been observed to be used in self defense against other predators. Almost all Defigos live in packs and families from as small as 5 hounds to as large as 16, as observed by the locals. The biggest "Alpha" males will weigh in about 190 lbs while most females weigh anywhere between 120 to 140 lbs. They are mostly docile and only exhibit aggression while hunting or defending. To date, no Terran has ever been attacked by a Defigo. Contact with wild Defigos are not common as most tend to run away on sight of Terrans. There are reports that very few Defigos will venture into established villages, seemingly out of curiousity. When these hounds are approached by Terrans, however, they turn tail and run.

SAMSTech Research division has managed to capture a pack of wild Defigos which had amongst them several pregnant females (presumably by the same Alpha male). During captivity, at first it was observed that these hounds possesed an intelligence as expected of earthly wolves. However, as the days gave way, certain behaviors consistent with systematic problemsolving, similar to that of earthly Orcas, began to manifest. Some males were observed throwing rocks and sticks at different parts of the fence, apparently testing for any weaknesses. Others were using their bony tails in unison in an attempt to knock over a cement wall. The most astounding incident happened when 2 veterinarians entered the pack's enclosure to check on the pregnant females' health. Each Vet had a key ring on a belt loop of their respective pants. The surprise came when a male positioned itself right behind one of the vets while another male made an aggresive gesture towards said vet as if to charge. The Vet, believing she was just about to be pounced and made into lunch, attempted to turn and run but tripped over the male right behind her, landing face down. The Alpha, apparently out of nowhere, quickly grabbed the keys by its snout and with 1 powerful tug riped open the belt loop that held the key ring. The alpha made a dash to the gate of the enclosure, keys in its snout, and all other hounds followed. This is where the hounds' "plan" failed: Once at the gate, the Alpha made a primitive attempt to simply mash the keys against the key hole to no avail. The other vet used an air horn she was carrying and scared the pack into the other extreme end of the enclosure. The Alpha didn't drop the keys, however. The vets proceeded out of the enclosure, one of them only suffering minor bruising on both her elbows from the fall... and a torn set of pants.

The entire incident was recorded by the enclosure surveillance cameras. After further evaluation and review of the incident, it was determined that the Defigos had actually carefully planned a near effective escape. The only thing that kept them from actually escaping the enclosure was the lack of finess to select the right key to open the gate.

After the pups were born, researchers waited until the male pups were off the teat to remove them from the pack for further studies and to begin a training program. The rest of pack was delivered and released back into the wild. They were tagged to be kept in check and follow their whereabouts. After a few months of studies and training, of the 7 male pups delivered in the enclosure, 3 were selected for the final stages of the training program. The other 4 were then delivered to their family. The reunion went without a hitch and further observation indicated the pups were well integrated in the group and cooperating well during their hunts.

The final 3 male pups were then subjected to rigorous training with SAMSTech's frame test pilots. The training included a sort of bonding proceedure with the test pilots in order to increase trust in human contact. After more painstaking months of training, 1 male finally passed the frame emulation test for the prototype frame SAMSTech was developing. The frame design was completely based on the Defigo hound and features a cockpit that was meant to accomodate one such hound. The cockpit even features nasal interfaces to accomodate the hound's sense of smell, giving the hound a live, realtime feedback and stimulation of the smells of the outside environment. It was designated MSF-03(V3) and aptly named Defigo Hound. A second protoype frame was designed as a sort of "master" to the Defigo frame in the same way a man is master to a dog. This frame, piloted by a terran, was designated MSF-03(V) and named Macer. The exterior of the Macer was molded to look like a half man, half defigo, for ease of recognition by the live defigo. The 2 frames were designed to work hand in hand but should the Macer fall in combat, the live defigo should posses enough training and intelligence to complete the task at hand... which is usually search and destroy.

This final hound, named Gunner, has shown remarkable promise for use in military and non-military purposes. To this day, it remains a faithful and loyal animal. It never attacks terrans but is able to seemingly switch "modes" to attack enemy frames. The only drawback observed by Gunner during the testing phase against dummy frames is that it has thus far made several attempts to "eat" its fallen "prey" while piloting the Defigo frame. This act, while uncommon, could put Gunner and the frame in a compromising position, increasing exposure to attack by other enemy frames. These instances were minimized by making sure Gunner was well fed PRIOR to deployment.
"Fear not the Defigo Hound that has picked up your scent. Fear the Master coming right behind it.
