Well, let's see how many of you are willing to defend language restrictions now that our new friend 'LegoQueers' has arrived. Something tells me that Ramcat, at least, isn't gonna see my problem...
I worked on the setting and mecha design, but my opinions are purely personal.

But Soren, that person is different/has different beliefs and values than me. Therefore they don't count, and it is not a slur. It is only bad if it affects me. [/sarcasm]

At first I thought you were making a Bloom County reference, but that's much longer than 14 letters

That was an epic Bloom County. But anyways, it did have a point that is very relevant to the one being discussed here. Therefore, I propose "Snugglebunnies" as the new curse of choice.

You won´t be hearing much swearing from me, since my english knowledge comes mostly from my job, and there i´m required to always be polite.

But on the discussion here, i think swearing isn´t that bad at all. I never really understood why you need to "protect" your kids from "bad words". They´ll start swearing sometime, regardless of how much you try to avoid it. As long as they get a feel for when it´s ok to swear and when you better keep it to yourself, everything should be fine.

Just my humble opinion.

Cheers,

I'm with you, but it's not my forum.

I'm enjoying our made-up swears, though.

This may be giving it away, but the answer is actually mecha related.

Oh well, I guess I am a bigger mecha nerd than I thought. I was sure someone on this forum would catch that quote. It came from an 80s comic book called Dynamo Joe, that was published by First Comics. The characters name was "Pomru Purrwakkawakka." No lie!

Sonofabitch! I think I've got the entire run of that book stashed away in my longboxes. It's also been a decade or so since I last looked at it. Someone really needs to collect that series into trades.

While we are talking about this, I would like to bring up that I find calling ourselves "MoF0s" to be a bit pejorative. I feel we should change it to M-F-Zeros!

Well MoFo would be derrogatory if it was applied to us by others, when self imposed it is empowering! (and funny tee-hee)

I'm of the mind of following rules where rules are stated. But also, there are much darker things in the world that kids need to be aware about and told what to do to protect themselves, and profanity is barely on that list, if at all. Once kids have a grasp of language and demonstrate the ability to accurately use a new addition to their vocabulary, it's time to start explaining what a curse word is, why people use them, and how to adjust the formality of their speech based on current company. It's a skill that's often neglected to be taught in favor of sheltering them from these words. Plus, a curse word doesn't necessarily make something more offensive. I could list some examples free of curse words that would probably get me banned, so I won't.

I wholeheartedly support using 'chron' as profanity. It just... fits.

EDIT: BTW I was actually helping your point of view there :)
