Portal now back on CUUSOO!

Postby LowestFormOfWit » Fri Jun 29, 2012 12:53 pm

I'm sure most of you heard of the project to get Portal theme LEGO sets via CUUSOO, and I'm also sure a lot of you heard it initially got turned down for <em>"unspecified reasons"</em>. But apparently there was enough outcry/support for the Portal LEGO project, that CUUSOO decided to reconsider!

You can now vote to support it on their CUUSOO page HERE!

Awesome! I'd love to see this actually produced.

The first one of these that I would actually believe had a chance at it. Portal as a puzzle game doesn't really go against LEGO's rules, unlike all the WH40k/BSG/Firefly/misc adult sci-fi franchise that has 0% chance.

The hard part is never the 10,000 votes, that seems to happen quite often. Of all the sets that have hit that mark, only three (If I'm not mistaken) sets that came fully to production, the Minecraft set being the last one.

Actually, I'm pretty sure only two projects have actually hit 10K - the first two were accepted back in the early stage of CUUSOO, when you only needed a thousand votes. It's harder than it looks.

The reason so many of them fail to go anywhere, naturally, is that nobody with good, pitchable ideas is willing to give them away for free - yet. Eventually someone will come up with a genuinely good and original idea that can also attract the magical 10K votes.
I worked on the setting and mecha design, but my opinions are purely personal.

A lot of Cuusoo ideas also fail the target demographic test... if Lego thinks it's not suitable for young kids, it can't become a set.

I think that's also why Portal on Cuusoo was rejected at first... if you take only a cursory look at the game, it looks a lot like a first person shooter, which would be a total no-go for Lego.

And yet you can buy a Lego Shelob... :P

Of course, Portal isn't worth GAZILLIONS of dollars, unlike Peter Jackson's LOTR/Hobbit franchise. I'm sure that has to have SOME kind of impact on Lego's decision.

They've hit the 8.3k mark. Not much more to go!
