Ijad Gunship

Postby Red_Robot » Mon Sep 30, 2013 9:15 am

When the Ijad faction, the Tears of Ahu, launched their initial assault on the Utari system, they utilized not only Ijad designed frames and spacefighters but also a great deal of conscripted and retrofitted Solar Union equipment.

The following ship is a fairly standard Solar Union "Flying Pig" variable wing transatmospheric dropship escort. Whether this is a design carried over from human colonists or a vehicle captured from SU military is unclear. While not cutting an elegant silhouette, the "Pig" excels as an air-to-ground support gunnery platform and as a dedicated frame hunter. Its VTOL systems and variable wing configurations makes it an excellent gunship for urban pacification.

Basic frame core inspired by Thaddeus's Ijad Medic but ended up wandering far afield.

This is a one-off frame for my Ijad faction, because I wanted a ship to include with them. Eventually, all my faction companies will likely include at least one "ship" frame. I started out tinkering with this intending to make an orinthopter. I though something looking more organic and flapping its wings would fit the Ijad design philosophy. I intended to make something that looked like a bat. By the time I got finished smooshing pieces together it did not look like a bat. So I decided to say it was a retrofitted human ship. I still have ideas for a more organic looking orinthopter. Maybe someday I'll get a chance to return to it.

Oh, as pictured here it has the following loadout:

EDIT: Originally posted this in the Frame section, then realized "That's more of a vehicle design, dummy!"

I could see this as either a frame or a ship. It's definitely a pretty intimidating mobile weapon ;)

Please do keep up the Ijad builds. You've got the aesthetic mastered, and I can't wait for more eye candy!
