Monthly Mecha-Making Inspiration: Long & Lanky Edition!

(it's a day early, but I'm hanging around outside my son's violin lesson and needed something to do, so here we are!)

Feeling stuck? Uninspired? Staring at your bricks longing for something to build? Have no fear, a new monthly inspiration thread is here! The game is simple - just build something inspired by this pic and post it here for all to enjoy!

Image

Source. Thanks to Atavism (again!) For the non-pinterest link!

Anything here turn you on? Maybe the posture, or the proportions? The big, honkin' shoulder cannon? The tandem cockpit? Maybe by the time you're seeing this someone has else has already posted a build that you like, so why not take a shot at recreating that with your own spin? Or try modding an existing frame design to mimic something about this mech! If you start out trying to build a mech like this one, but take a sharp left and get something completely different then show us that, too!

Remember, inspiration means whatever you want it to mean, so get creative and go nuts!

There's no reason to feel like you've missed out on the previous edition of you haven't had a chance to submit there yet. That thread is still open, and available here:

Hope you don't mind, but here's my first attempt

I know it's not the best but I hope it might inspire others to make something just as good if not better.

Damn, I had the same idea to use that curved piece in the torso! Too bad no one can out speed Artasid!

You're way too modest, man, that looks great! Congrats on being first :D

Artasid beat me to the punch (and his looks much better too!). Here is my codename: Sangheili.

The thing that stood out to me on the source material was the cockpit, strangely enough. I built the core first which came together smoothly, and required a sacrifice of my "Box" frame (Maximoff wins again  ).

However the arms and legs took many, many tries (and I'm still not satisfied with the arms  ).

Nice! I like the 1x2 hinge for the angle on the cockpit section. Hadn't thought of that!

Geez, finally!! I can't believe it took me this to take a turn playing my own game...

I was really hoping to get something brick-built for this month, though for reasons that I'm sure many of you will understand, it's easier to pick at a build in LDD - unless you're one of those lucky dogs with a dedicated work space that you leave WIPs out on, which I am not. Anyway, the month is still fairly young, so maybe I'll get a bricked on, too.

Ooh! Me next! Me next!

...and the reverse angle, in case anyone was interested

This was fun, and it helped get me to overcome my procrastination--I've got a bunch of random frames lying around my apartment that I hadn't photographed, and now I've done that. I'll probably be posting those later in the week.

I really like all of these. Each one shows off their respective builder's style and personality. Here's mine and hope you all like it.

And indeed, I do like it!
Awesome interpretation, those legs are spot-on! While I feel the arms could use a little work, the rest of the build is really awesome. The cannon, torso and cockpit shaping, and as I said before, those legs!
Great job!

Great stuff, gang! Every entry in this thread makes me so happy! ^_^

Seeing so many different interpretations of the same design is even more interesting than I'd hoped.

I most likely will not get around to submitting anything for this month because it has been really busy lately. Artasid and NinjaDoom way to get the party started ;) I wanted to say that some of the work that has been done is some really good stuff. Particularly: Phayze81, I love how you used the connecting torso piece and the shoulder gun looks nice. Mark, amazing job as usual, the feet are really cool as well as the face/cockpit. Atavism, love the compact, well constructed design. It has really good symmetry and style.

All of you guys did awesome, and great work! Looking forward to next month :)

Made it in time! Glad I had this weekend, otherwise I probably would never have gotten around to this month's.
I think it turned out pretty good, though it was a challenge. I love the inspiration this time around, it's such a cool mech, very dynamic.

I also really like all the other builds so far, very nice! It's cool how different they each end up due to our own tastes and styles :)

Had a crazy October. Yet, I'm glad to have managed to find time to give this challenge the shot it deserves!

Amazing submissions all around. I'm eager to see what happens next month!

Yes! I feel like every new build something new and exciting with the design. Nice work everybody!

Thanks, I'm really happy to have had such a positive response! I'm a notorious lurk, so I worried that no one would want to play along with my weird game.

Thanks for making the game, got some really good work out of the community.

Wanted to comment on Aardvark17 and VitorFaria's work. Got some really nice builds going there. Aardvark, really like the legs and arms, and that gunsight is really rocking too. VitorFaria, thats a serious gun, works nicely though. I like how you blended in the cockpit and I feel the frame is proportioned pretty well.

Great job guys :)

Thanks! I will never miss an opportunity to use that early Star Wars cannon piece. It's kind of a silly and over-specific part, but a silly and over-specific part that I love!
