[Singe set challenge] - 41501 Vulk

Single set challenges look like fun.

The Mixel Vulk is my set of choice - I picked up three of them for parts recently and was inspired by the cute little roach Mantisking made from this set.

And here's my attempt. I call it the Formic:

The legs were the starting point, and I liked what the non-cardinal cheese slopes did for them. As you can see on the middle picture the mountings for the legs are on top of each other rather than side-by-side. But I like it better this way than the more squat, symmetrical version.

I really wanted to grab a 1*2 light grey plate for the mortar, but I bravely stuck to the challenge and made do with a black one. Using the sockets as weapons was a happy accident and might be something I use on a "real" frame.

Game stats:
d6W d6W It's a mech
d6Ra d6Ra d8Ra armed with triple corrosive mortars
d6B scuttly-legs
d6G and reactive armour plates (all those cheese slopes).

I think it looks nicer from above, but couldn't get a good photo from that angle:

I really want a bunch more of these sets. They're just great.

The mortar is outright inspired. Happy accident or not, it's a great idea.

The best is when you find that Mixels are on sale. Such a good price point! These guys look great!

That use of ball joints for a mortar is inspired.
I was looking for something to use as a mortar, and while I wont be using that as is, it gives me several ideas.

Ditto. I'll have to remember that for future use.
