Single Set Challenge: 30185

Postby darksyntax » Sun Dec 22, 2013 3:32 am

Lego stores had (has?) set 30185 on sale for $0.98 this past week. I found 3 and of course I had to give them a SSC go. (Like you didn't see this coming...)

The set has 2 hinges, cheese, toothplates, and a fair amount of handles & clips, but no SNOT or jumperplates. FYI, the bricklink inventory is off on the extras count: there are also 1ea brown cheese, yellow cheese, and 1x1 white tile; 51pc total. The clips/handles made some build aspects easy, while no offset/SNOT took some working around. I used 50pcs in each of these.

C&C solicited as always!

Absolutely love those, especially the crawling Eagle. Nice solution with the cannon

Thanks!

I wanted to round out the three usual suspects (frame types) with a humanoid biped. The lack of SNOT made the legs/feet difficult and they're my least fav part. Also the jumppack got a little big. However it's a very serviceable frame and all the systems are individually removable.

Are you related to MacGyver? Because I swear you can make a mobile frame out of anything.

Haha. Thanks guys! I've come a LONG way in the last year as a builder. All I can say is challenge yourself (limited palettes, odd ideas) and build, build, build. Hopefully these SSCs will provide some entry level options or inspiration to get new players started.
