Single Set Challenge: 31005

Been wanting to try my hand a Mantisking's Single Set Challenge with set 31005 after gusindor posted his Rusty Rovers where he managed to squeeze out 4 frames, a truck (also a frame), and 3 stations. All that made me take a second look at 31005; there's some good stuff in there (256 pieces) for $20 US.

I went into this with the goals of making 7brick tall frames (Chub sized) with some uniformity; 4 frames (enough for a real company or for 2 players to each have 2 frames for a small demo) and 2-3 stations. I ended up with 3 and 3; try as I might I just couldn't find a fourth frame.

I really like how these came out. No names yet. Suggestions?

d6W d6W d6Rh d6Rh d8Rh d6B d6G d8G d8Rr (dual auto shotguns, armor plate, wheeled feet)
d6W d6W d6Rd d6Rd d6B d6Y d6G d8Rr (assault cannon, armor plate, jump jet, multi-spectrum sensor)

I waited until I was done with the frames and made these from what I thought was scraps, but those scraps yielded some decent stations.

A few closing thoughts:
The larger pieces were more difficult to work around than I'd expected. There are no jumper plates in 31005 so 1/2-stud offsets are difficult; I found this rather frustrating. There are 2 headlights and a few L brackets (I used them all) which is nice in a 256 pc set. While there are plenty of clips in the mix, there's not as much to clip them to.

C&C solicited as always.

Really like the guy in the middle with the cylindrical legs! The idea of the frame running in there and then shotgunning someone's face is awesome. Remember, since you're counting the shotguns as HtH weapons, your frame gains d8G ! :o

I also like the little generator station thing. looks very solid for all this coming from one set!

Super awesome! That repair station is really cool, very construction/assembly line looking. Nice use of the Z-shaped bracket in the soldier frames, too. For the name, how about the Hunchback?

If you want to try a fourth unit, might I suggest a vehicle? They often use fewer fiddlies than mobile frames. And from the looks of it you still have the pieces that connect the truck to the trailer, which could be good for rotorblades or a tank turret.

Hmmnn. Maybe I set the original parameters for the challenge too tight.

Did you have any pieces left over?

You could make a hovertank out of that. Something like these: Image
It wouldn't be that elegant, but it would float and shoot, so what more do you need?

It would take a bit more finagling, but a helicopter or airplane might be another possibility.
