1-Set Challenge; The Rusty Rovers!

Postby gusindor » Mon Aug 26, 2013 6:43 pm

A while back, I challenged myself to build a complete company from the parts included in only one set. I chose this set because it seemed to have a good amount of joints and other fiddly bits. After a bit of trial and error, I managed to make 5 units and 3 stations that all look good together. I'm calling them the Rusty Rovers, a mercenary unit that prides themselves on being "cheap as dirt but strong as plasteel" thanks to their utter lack of elegance or subtlety.

Here's a group shot:

They have 2 soldiers: d6Rd d6Rd for the cannon, d6G for the booster jet, d6B for the armor plating, and d6Y for the spotlight.

1 cutter: d6Rh d6Rh d8Rh for the chainsaw claws, d6G d6G for the turbocharged jump jet, and d8G for having no ranged weapons.

1 rainer: d6Ra d6Ra d8Ra for the anti-aircraft guns, and d6B d6B for the heavy armor.

The truck is also a unit: d6B d6B for the heavy armor on the roof, d6G for the spare tire, d6Y for the spotlights, d8Rr d8Rr d8Rr for the missiles, and d8G for having no ranged weapons.

It can also transport a walker, which wouldn't happen in-game but it's a cool feature.

Their stations are 2 gas pumps:

And a windmill:

Nice! I had a lot of fun with my own 1-set challenge (#6177). I actually just picked up 31005 and haven't broken it down yet. I might have a go at this too.

EDIT: 4P or 7P? The frames look a little small, but the truck looks right for 7P.

The truck would also get a free d8G for no ranged weapons as SSRs don't count as systems.

Guessing that's a typo.

I intended 7p, although the walkers must be pretty cramped... After posting this, I realized I had enough parts to add a 2X2 plate to the chest, making it just thick enough that it doesn't look too flat for a 7p person to be inside. Uncomfortable, yes. Impossible, no.

But they'd probably look better in a 4p scale.

I picked up this set last night at TRU. I'm going to take a shot at making a few things with it this weekend.
