Frame Chef: July 2012

Postby Wordman » Mon Jul 02, 2012 8:49 am

Since the June Frame Chef was such a rousing... meh... why not do it again?

Welcome to the next installation of Frame Chef, a monthly "contest" to build Mobile Frame Zero frames (or other MFØ creations) based on a "secret ingredient" (a specific LEGO™ part or set of parts) that will change each month.

The Rules

  • Build a frame (or other MFØ creation) that makes essential, extensive and/or innovative use of the secret ingredient parts.
  • Create a new post in the appropriate sub-forum (e.g. "Frame Design" for frames, "Vehicle Design" for vehicles, etc) to showcase your build, just as you would for any other creation.
  • Do not mention Frame Chef in the title of your post. Instead name the creation like usual. If you want to mention Frame Chef in the initial post of the thread, go ahead, but this is not required. (The idea here is that your creation may go on to have a life far beyond Frame Chef, so no point in tying it down.)
  • Your post can contain photos of brick builds, LDraw files, etc. Instructions or breakdowns always welcome.
  • Add a link to your post in this month's Frame Chef thread (i.e. this one). Do not post creations directly to this thread.
  • Make sure to specify usage restrictions about your creations in the first post. It is recommended you use the same Creative Commons license that Mobile Frame Zero does.
  • At the end of the month, this thread will close and a new thread, with a new secret ingredient will begin.

The Prize

Since the whole point of this is really just to help stoke the creative fires, there doesn't seem to be much of a point in naming a "winner". If people really scream for one, we'll figure something out, but the point is really just to do something not all that serious.

So, without further ado, Chairman Mofo will now reveal the secret ingredient for this month:

I used to have a bunch of these in my old Lego back at mum's house. Sadly she gave them away to my cousin who promptly lost them/had them stolen/sold them for drug money (yeah we're real fond of that cousin).

So alas, I don't have ANY of those bad boys.

I have 8 of them or so, mostly from my old collection. It's a weird piece but it does some neat stuff. My Dissident Pulsars use two on the backpack area, and Mardukas' Tiamat (and other ST-X9 Behemoth frames) use one on the chest just behind the mudguard. I've already run out of them.

That's downright wrong. When I left home, my LEGOs were guarded by my mother like an egg. She saved them for me for over a decade, even when other toys got donated/sold/regifted, she always saved my LEGOs for my children to enjoy. (Or in this case, me as an adult)

Sorry to hear that. I gave my old Lego away to a friend who has kids, back before I came out of my dark ages.

I actually have quite a few of those, I'll see if I can't churn something out.

I feel for ya, my mom gave mine to a cousin who pretty much did the same thing. What he does have left of my old lego's isn't worth squat.

My entry. I think it qualifies as the pieces kinda give it its shape in the torso.

My Datura was done for the July challenge. It includes the challenge part...somewhere in there.

Though I think I'm skipping on this challenge in terms of making a new frame for it, it's worth noting that my Pulsar, Ecclesiarch (Mk.I and Mk.II), Behemoth and Tiamat (Mk.I and Mk.II) all use this month's frame chef piece in their builds.

Never seen that piece in my life, though I'm no LEGO maniac.

Maybe next month....

Built a couple frames using this month's part for inspiration:

1. IF Beetle
2. NDI "Soldier"

Oddly enough, they're also the 1st and 2nd Frames I ever built.
